Aaron Heilman
I have served as Worship Leader, Worship Director, Director of Ministries and Pastor Intern at several different churches of all backgrounds and sizes around the Kansas
City area for almost 15 years. Before that I served as a volunteer musician on the praise team at Bethany Lutheran Church in Overland Park, KS.
I believe that how we worship and why we worship has a profound impact on our connection with our Creator and our connection to each other as children of God. God drew me to him through music with songs like "On The Turning Away" by
Pink Floyd, "I Still Haven't Found What I Am Looking For" by U2, "Heaven" by Los
Lonely Boys and so many others. I spent many years playing in bar bands searching for the answers to life. After I got married and began having children, I started looking for those answers elsewhere, primarily in church praise teams, starting with Bethany Lutheran Church in Overland Park, KS. I am firm believer that God uses music of all kinds to connect us to Him and to one another.
I also believe that God calls us to sing to Him. The bible says that God inhabits
the praises of His people (Psalm 22:3). Elsewhere, it says that God sings over
His people (Zephaniah 3:17). I connect these two verses and believe that God
sings over us through the mouths of believers. It is truly incredible when you
think about it! We are a singing faith. For these reasons, I strongly believe that
part of my call is to exhort believers to sing to Him and one another. I prefer the sound of the congregation singing to God rather than the sound of my own voice.
"Be filled with the Holy Spirit, 19 singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. 20 And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." (Ephesians 5:18-20)
